Following an ARCON facilitated Master Facility Plan effort with a widespread community engagement component, the Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 community overwhelmingly supported the passing of a referendum for a replacement middle school and capacity upgrades and modernizations at their two elementary schools.
At Wescott, two additions add a net increase of 8 new classroom spaces to accommodate recent growth and the desire to bring Wescott’s PreK students back to the Wescott campus. A new appropriately sized gymnasium is added to support the needs of the increased population. Renovations include a conversion of the existing undersized gymnasium into modern, appropriately sized art and music spaces, a significant increase in special education support spaces throughout, and additional staff spaces. An additional circulation route is added easing pressure on existing bottlenecks and supporting separate grade level zoning and student flow, minimizing disturbances and congestion. Site improvements include a reimagined outdoor play area with age level modern play equipment, additional parking spaces, and an extension of an existing drop-off lane significantly reducing drop-off congestion and improving safety.
At Willowbrook, the existing library is reimagined and modernized into a vibrant heart of the building by opening the existing space to the adjacent corridor, expanding the footprint, and by providing a variety of distinct learning zones and small group/support spaces. Speech language pathologist, psychologist, occupational therapy, sensory, and team reading programs receive new and expanded spaces closer to the first floor PreK-Kindergarten wing. Spaces are reorganized and regrouped throughout the building resulting in appropriate grade level groupings. Site improvements include additional staff parking and an addition of permanent outdoor and indoor storage spaces.
