The Public Works Fleet Service Garage on Biesterfield was constructed in 1980. For the past 37 years, the facility has served The Public Works Department, and The Village, but the facility was in need of repairs and updating. Since the Fleet Service Garage services The Public Works Department, The Fire Department, The Police Department, and The Village’s vehicles, The Fleet Service Garage had to be operational during construction, which posed a unique challenge. Instead of removing the original façade, a new “skin” was installed in front of the existing shell and all obtrusive work that would affect the functionality of The Fleet Service Garage occurred over the weekend and after-hours. Interior renovations included the administrative offices, staff lunch room, and locker rooms. A new salt barn and exterior storage serves the western portion of the community. Landscape enhancements, new parking lots, and a small nursery were also part of the scope. The project had an accelerated time schedule, starting with design to owner occupancy. The project was completed in less than a year.
