As a transition in ownership neared completion, the new owners of Preferred Electric looked to purchase and renovate a building they could call their own. The current location was a rented space, and was not an environment that supported the necessary daily interactions the business required. ARCON worked closely with Preferred Electric to determine the viability of the building prior to purchase. One of the main objectives of the design was for Preferred Electric to have an efficient, beautiful work environment that could also act as a showroom to feature new lighting technologies and fixtures. One of the most notable features of this facility is the sleek lighting throughout, from flush wall and soffit linear light fixtures, to RGB LED lights in soffit coves, to LED pendants. Preferred Electric provided their own lighting design for this project, but sought ARCON’s expertise on the overall design of the space, layout, finishes, and furniture selections. The space contains an open office work area, private offices, a conference room, break-out team rooms, lunch room, warehouse space, and an entertainment room to socialize with clients.
ARCON was retained to be both the Architect and the Construction Manager on this project. After the design process was complete, ARCON focused on putting out-to-bid eight separate bid packages and scoping out the contractors. We were on-site daily overseeing the day-to-day activities, coordinating between trades, scheduling contractors and the portions of work they were contracted to perform, and led the Owner-Architect-Contractor weekly meetings. Construction lasted four-and-a-half months. Once complete, the Preferred Electric team was excited to occupy this new beautiful space and is anxious to bring in perspective and current clients to showcase the newest in lighting and lighting controls.
