All five of Township High School District 211’s pools were in need of reconstruction. The pools opened in 1978, and though routine maintenance occurred, no major renovations were made to any of the pools over the past 36 years. Each T-shaped pool will be replaced by a larger and deeper 25-yard competition pool. Amenities include (10)-lanes with two lanes in shallower water, starting platforms, and two diving boards. The scope will also include the replacement of mechanical equipment, lockers rooms, bleacher seating and athletic and PE offices.
The renovation work at the five schools will be phased over several years, beginning the Spring of 2014 and finishing August 2017. A rotation schedule will be set up at schools with operating pools to accommodate students and community members displaced due to construction.
