The Student Activity Center, or otherwise known as “The SAC”, at Glenbrook North High School is a highly trafficked gathering space at the core of the building. Students often congregate during passing periods to socialize, and during free periods will use the space as a study zone. Over the years the space has seen tremendous wear and tear on the flooring, as well as the lounge furniture. The district reached out to ARCON to provide a durable solution that would remain flexible, all while emphasizing school spirit.
The flooring was used to separate the zone in to two spaces – a lounge area, and an impromptu gathering space. The LVT flooring, which can be seen from the corridor, highlights the “Glenbrook North Spartans”, further identifying this zone as the Student Activity Center. The lounge furniture is a combination of more traditional upholstered lounge chairs, swivel chairs, and ottomans, sprinkled with a few more stylized occasional chairs. All of the seating is flexible, while offering several options for student choice. This space is frequented more now than ever, and due to the recent renovations, can withstand the wear and tear brought on by constant use.
