The fitness center at Glenbrook South High School was in need of new equipment, and in return the project started out as a simple equipment replacement. Under further review, the district and ARCON discussed current athletic curriculum, and found that there was a desire to update the program, as well as address other concerns in the fitness room.
We created a space that removed the barriers and intimidations of a typical gym, and offered an inclusive design that caters to all fitness abilities. A turf area was incorporated by the windows to allow for group fitness opportunities, as well as flexibility to use free weights, rowers, or stretch. Rouge machines and benches were added to allow for strength training, all while focusing on functional fitness. District staff were trained with the new equipment and programming, and through this process, the school became a cross-fit affiliate.
New flooring, and the incorporation of a school logo, helps connect the athletic office to the adjacent field house and fitness center.
