Glenbrook South High School State & Madison

“State and Madison” is a well loved corridor / intersection outside the Cafeteria and Auditorium at Glenbrook South High School. Students use this space to socialize, connect, and recharge during passing periods or free time. The existing corridor was dark and uninviting. Outdoor park benches lined the perimeter, though students could often been seen lying on the ground due to the rigidness of the metal benches. The renovations in this space started with addressing an issue / crack in the slab, which led to a floor replacement. Glenbrook High Schools District 225 and ARCON saw an opportunity to address other concerns in the space consecutively. This space has since received new flooring, a combination of LVT and carpet, which has set new standards in the high school, as well as a soffit and accent lighting to highlight the main seating area. Flexible furniture now lines the walls allowing students to either socialize, or individually recharge, all while feeling connected to each other. This is a great example of where one small project turned in to a great opportunity.
