Hinsdale South High School Career Technical Education

Following an ARCON led Master Facility Plan process for Hinsdale THSD 86, and successful referendum, several projects were identified that would help align the district’s physical spaces with their educational goals. These projects were to be phased over a multi-year plan. The renovation of Hinsdale South High School’s Career Technical Education Department was one of the identified projects.

The existing area consisted of a woodshop, industrial technology, Building & Grounds auto shop and a garage. The areas did not align with the district’s curriculum goals. Before renovations began, district officials wanted to ensure that both Hinsdale South High School and Hinsdale Central High School had similar facilities and CTE opportunities for students that matched the standards for career path advancement, while at the same time provide flexibility to address the changing needs of the CTE curriculum.

The new CTE Department features two Maker/Fabrication Labs (one dedicated to woodworking and the other to milling) CNC, 3D-printing, laser cutting, welding and painting. Students have the ability to learn using a computer-aided milling Mini Mill, Chucker Lathe and laser cutter machines. The space also provides a permanent welding area and paint booth with an exhaust hood.
